Djibouti expressed an interest in 2005 in joining the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force, established on 30 November 2004 as a voluntary regional association to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
Djibouti does not have a national chapter of Transparency Internationa.

Government Institutions and Initiatives
Djibouti has no special offices charged with investigating corruption.

Public Procurement
Djibouti was reported in 2004 to be actively working on new legislation to bring its public procurement practices in line with the standard set by the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), of which it is a member.

Anti Money Laundering
The Central Bank has instituted mechanisms against money laundering and terrorist financing with the help of the Office of the United Nations against drug and crime (ONUDC).

Corruption Perception Index
Djibouti scored 2.8 on Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index 2009. The scale runs from 0 (high corruption) to 10 (no corruption). It is ranking in the 111th position among 180 countries; the same as Algeria and Egypt, ahead of Syria but behind Morocco. Djibouti scored 3.0 in 2008 and was ranked 102nd among the 180 countries in the world, tied with Lebanon, and now ahead of Egypt. In 2007, Djibouti scored 2.9. It was in 105th place, tied with Egypt, among 180 countries in the world. Djibouti could not be included in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index of 2006 for lack of a sufficient number of surveys.
