Egypt - Seven opposition parties decide to run in the parliamentary elections of 2010

Seven Egyptian opposition parties have declared that they will run in the parliamentary elections due to be held in November 2010. They will nominate 350 candidates in 82 constituencies. The presidents of these parties said in a joint statement they issued on 29 August 2010 that agreement was reached to activate the party pluralism by demanding the amendment of the Parties Law to guarantee equality among all the parties. The statement added that they also agreed to demand real guarantees for holding free elections that can express the will of the people through the full judicial supervision of the elections.

Jordan - The opposition parties will participate in the parliamentary elections by nominating one list

The four Jordanian opposition parties which will participate in the elections, namely, the Democratic Youth Party [Hashd], the Socialist Ba'th Party, the Communist Party, and the National Movement Party in addition to the Progressive Ba'th Party agreed to form a unified list to run for elections. They also agreed on a unified electoral platform. They said in a statement they issued on Monday, 30 August 2010, that their platform will include all aspects of political, economic and social life.
According to the statement, the parties agreed to form the necessary bodies for coordination, particularly in the media and political fields and to work as soon as possible for choosing the party candidates in the various areas. They also agreed not to have one candidate overlap another in the constituencies and decided to support all the candidates of the political parties on whom these parties agreed.

Bahrain - Opening nomination for the parliamentary and municipal elections of 2010

The King of Bahrain, Hamad Ibn Isa Al Khalifah, has opened the door for nomination for the municipal and parliamentary elections for the Third Legislative Session of 2010-2011 and called on the Bahraini people to exercise their constitutional right, say their word and choose their representatives on the polling day of 23 October 2010.

Sudan - Winning of the candidates of the National Congress in the postponed national and Wilaya constituencies

The National Commission for Elections in Sudan declared the results of the postponed elections in nine national and Wilaya constituencies in the Red Sea and Al-Qadarif wilayas. The Commission said the winners were the candidates of the National Congress in these constituencies.

Jordan - The date of parliamentary elections in Jordan was fixed at 9 November 2010

In its session held on Tuesday, 15 June 2010 under Prime Minister Samir Al-Rifa'i, the Jordanian cabinet fixed 09 November as the date for holding the parliamentary elections.

Occupied Palestinian Territories - Postponement of the local council elections for an indefinite period of time

The Palestinian cabinet decided to postpone the elections of the local councils due to be held on 17 July 2010 until further notice. The new date of the elections will be fixed later. The Palestinian cabinet decision to postpone the local elections came as a response to the international, Islamic and Arab pressure exerted on the Palestinian Authority [PA] to postpone the elections until after the inter-Palestinian reconciliation is forged so as to end the division and reach national reconciliation as soon as possible.

Egypt - The final results of the supplementary elections of the Egyptian Shura Council of 2010

The Higher Committee for Elections in Egypt announced the final results of the supplementary Shura Council elections in which 80 candidates of the ruling National Democratic Party [NDP] won. The winners also included opposition candidates belonging to the Al-Ghad Party, Al-Jeel Party, the Progressive National Unionist Grouping Party, and the Nasirite Democratic Party. Four independent candidates also won. The final results were declared after the rerun of the elections in which the number of voters invited to vote reached 2,852,300 while the real number of those who cast their ballots reached 392,556 voters.

Sudan - Beginning of the process of polling in the rerun constituencies

The rerun of elections started on 5 June 2010 in 33 electoral national and wilaya constituencies in the various wilayas of Sudan. It should be recalled that the National Commission for Elections decided earlier to repeat the elections in 33 electoral constituencies and wilayas in view of some technical and administrative problems encountering the election process. Moreover, elections will be held to elect a replacement of the candidates who died. The replacement elections will be held later on.

Egypt - Declaration of the Results of the Supplementary Shura Council Elections

The Higher Committee for Elections in Egypt announced on Thursday, 03 June 2010 the names of the winners in the supplementary Shura Council elections as well as the names of the candidates who will nominate themselves in the rerun elections on Tuesday, 8 June 2010.
It is noteworthy that the seats to be won in the Shura Council elections were 74 seats in 55 electoral constituencies in which 439 candidates competed following the winning of 14 candidates by acclaim. The number of those who were entitled to vote reached 25,436,000 candidates. However, the number of those who cast their ballots were only 7,899,000, or a percentage of more than 30 per cent. There were also a total of 28,690 subcommittees.
The rerun elections will be held for 10 seats in five governorates and 11 candidates of the NDP and nine independent candidates will run.

Iraq - The Federal Court confirms the results of the parliamentary elections

The Federal Court in Iraq confirmed on Tuesday, 01 June, the results of the legislative elections with the exception of two seats belonging to the Iraqi list and a coalition that included the main political parties.
The independent Commission for Elections in Iraq said that the candidates that come next in the winning list will replace the two candidates of the Iraqi list. Consequently, the outcome of the elections which were held on 7 March 2010 will not undergo any change.
Following the declaration by the Federal Court of its endorsement of the results of the elections, the incumbent Iraqi president will invite the new Iraqi parliament to convene within 15 days from the date of endorsement. The oldest parliament member will chair the session after which the speaker of the parliament and his two deputies will be elected.
